Great site, makes me feel really home sick. I was an RAF 'brat' from 1967 to 1970. Went to a Wattisham reunion the other week, shall have to email the others about this site.

I was posted to Wattisham in 1963 still wearing my Boy Entrants wheel, the wheel lasted about as long as it took the SWO to get from the Guardroom to my worthless self. Went back in the 70s for another tour. Life in the RAF in those days was all travel and I spent the next lifetime packing and unpacking, I must have enjoyed it as I stayed for 22 years, plus a couple for free because I was a 15 year old brat when I joined. Good reading, thanks. Neil

I was the FS in charge of the Clerical services Flight in 1964/5 and lived in the Bricett Vicarage. The Lightnings used o use my house as a marker when they came in to land. The whole house shook as 111 and 56 flew over for Churchill's funeral. Thanks for the sight of your site, it was interesting to turn back the pages. Good Luck.

My father was in the 434th fighter squadron of the 479th fighter group station at Wattisham in 1944 & 1945. He recently visited the airfield in May of 2003 for the first time since he left the field in 1945. He was the pilot of a P51 Mustang named "The American Maid". My father would like to get in contact with the armor for his aircraft, whose name was Sgt. Frank Kinney. Can you provide me any info that I can share with my father?

Ken - Thanks for the site and all of the wonderful memories of airplanes, MPBW gaffs, the NAAFI -- and most importantly the lads. I flew the MK3 Lightning on excahnge for two glorious years starting in 1969 on No. 29 Squadron. Unfortunately XP756 and I departed company over the North Sea in January 1971 and I have just finished paying the Mess bill that was presented to me the following month clearly stating: " 1 ea. Lightning Mk3 - 5.56 million pounds"! Cheers to all. William R Povilus, Colonel USAF retired.

I was posted to GRF from 78 to 80. Remember getting woken to many TACEVALS. Also remember the twin Meteor engined snow clearance equipment coupled to a fuel tanker!!!. The ice and snow used rise fifty feet in the air. I don't think it would pass health and safety nowadays. I did enjoy my time there though.

Found your site whilst looking for RAF Fire appliances on the web. Could not find this home page straight away but now I have and can leave this message for you. Great photographs of your days in the Fire service.I had taken the liberty of placing some of your photographs on a site I run for Ex RAF Fire appliance enthusiasts/owners. This was, of course, before I found your main web page. I have now put a link to your site and an acknowledgement by the photos. If this is not acceptable please let me know and I will remove them. Please take a look at http://groups.msn.com/TheSixAppealWheelGroup Many Thanks, Walter Davis SAW Group Manager/Creator.
